doughnut economics: a promising model in need of more precision

The doughnut economic model is the smarter alternative to the promise of never ending growth. It answers what is the economy for: to provide all humans what they need (inner ring) and to do so within our planetary boundaries (outer ring). What we need next are calculations on this basis how much we have to reduce pollution also beside the Paris goals to protect our climate. Yet, for calculations the model lacks precision. May it inspire a next better generation of economists as it inspired our Brussels Lesegruppe discussion quite a bit!

In this presentation, Kate Raworth summarises her idea of a Doughnut economic model: https://www.etui.org/content/download/33783/321810/file/6-ETUI-Raworth.pdf

In an event by the European Trade Union Institute, she also gave an interview (2min15): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TS7LkUzxMFE

Banksy recently depicted the stress-creating problem and power relations in an economy and society driven only by growth:
